I live on Cape Breton Island and I am a writer of many things. I love short-stories and have written quite a few. Some of them have been published. I’ve written three fiction novels so far and I’m working on a new one. I was a journalist for many years and wrote for the much loved Victoria Standard, the newspaper that represented Victoria County here on the island. Sadly, it doesn’t exist anymore. When I was still working and living in Toronto, I worked for a third world agency as a correspondent.

Most of my early work is published under Mona Anderson. James “Jimmy” Clark Anderson was my husband. We moved to Cape Breton in 2008 when we retired. Jim was born here.  At Jim’s suggestion, I published my first novel under my own name, Mona Knight. He said to me one day, as we were nearing publication, “Maybe you’d like to put your own name on it?”  “Yes, I would,” I said. We had talked about names many times over the years. His name was important to him, and he knew mine was important to me too, one of the many things I love about Jimmy. He knew me well. So now my published work is written under my own name, Mona Knight, but in the real world, I’m still known as Mona Anderson. Thank you, Jim. I so miss you …every day.

I’ve moved around a lot in more recent years. After my Jimmy died, I was lost, at loose ends, and empty. I left the island several times, but I always came back. I like living here in Cape Breton. I feel like I belong on an island. And this island is my home.

  1. Hi Mona , LOVE YOUR FORTUNE BOOKS. ON SECOND CHANCE.
Pat Fields bought them for me.
You signed them and it makes me very happy when i see that.
Looking so forward to the next one.
Hopefully, some smart person sees them and turns them in to a mini series.
    Keep writing ❤️❤️❤️

    • Hi Vann, The Fortune Sagas have just become a Trilogy. The third book is now out. It’s called Heartbreak Rodeo. It’s available at The Flying Kite Art Gallery in Baddeck. I’ll be at the Flying Kite on November 22nd, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm to meet folks and sign books. Maybe you would be able to stop by and get a copy for yourself.

Thanks so much for writing. Makes me happy when folks tell me they like my stories.

      Mona

  2. Just finished Banjo Flats, my husband bought it for me for Christmas. Never thought I would get into it because I’m not into reading Western style books. It was fantastic👌💐💐💐💐💐💐Great job.
